    Door wont shut!!

Got in my S2 this morning and the door wont stay shut. It seems the catch is not holding.

Luckily I was due to take it to a garage this morning to get a hole in the exhaust welded. The guy at the garage said he would have a look at it but I suspect it will need replacing. Or can they be repaired?

Anyone BTDT on this? Did a quick search but couldnt find anything.

One think after another. Fix one thing, something else breaks. Grrrrhhhhhh!!!

    Cheers people.

By the way glad to hear the garage meet went well. Would have loved to have been there but as always had a prior engagement. Will make it to a meet one day.

If you're lucky then it's a simple matter of adjusting the door catch mechanism.

        Cheers Guys,

Picking car up after work and as Ive not heard anything im hoping the guy has managed to fix it. Bit of a worry as ive just heard that I have some "travellers" parked close to my house which is not good if I cant lock my car.

I had this too it was the spring in the door lock assembly, replacment is the only way in this case and as i understand very common fault.

            Door lock problem

            BTDT

Mine was the door catch assembly on the edge of the door that needed replacing - a moving metal part had broken in it.

Whilst the part arrived I closed the door using a roof rack strap (from the other car) tensioned around the seat. It needed a fair bit of tension to keep the door looking closed.

The part itself was slightly fiddly (but not difficult) to fit in getting the cable onto the new catch if I remember.

            Regards,

Ditto, i went to a scrappy as the spring in mine shut, cost me a fiver for another chrome one as the standard 80's and 90's had plain galvanised ones, and the coupe got chrome ones

Luckily the guy who was doing my exhaust managed to fix it. As he said "i always keep bits of old locks around for this sort of thing" Top bloke.

                Exhaust no longer blowing either.

                Cheers for the replies.
