    Leaking fuel tank

Fairly sure this is a leaking tank, but it seems more like a thick oil that is covering the tank, spare wheel well and the diff.

I am mobile at the moment but made a folder on my google drive:

    Would appreciate opinions.

Diff oil will be leaking past the seal, very common

If it's also smells of petrol then probably leaking aswell but the only place I've known them leak is on the passenger side of the propshaft on the vertical face, easy checked by pulling away the covering

I will have another look tomorrow. I just couldn't work out how so much oil / fluid had gotten above the diff so to speak. Will try and clean it up carefully and watch when it comes back!

Don't suppose you have any decent fuel lines kicking around do you? It's the one with 3 lines heading to the tank (4A0201544A I believe), might have to make some with copper / rubber. I just keep finding bloody rust!!

Time will tell if mine is leaking, but as soon as I have the car back on the road I am hiring a lift to sort out the underneath. Presume you have to drop the subframe to replace the tank?

That looks bad! I would replace them with some plastic fuel lines.

Yes Alex, subframe needs to come off to take off tank, along with diff

It's not a bad job on a 2 poster though,I did the one on my s6 a couple of years ago in an afternoon (I was feeling especially motivated that day lol)

I have heard of garages quoting mental amounts £800-900 to do it

I don't have any good lines I'm afraid,I use cupro nickel line to replace them.

Btw the flared connections at the bottom of the bulkhead are quite large and I borrow a kit for making brake lines for trucks to match them
