  • Headlight reseal - butyl sealer ?

    Hi all,

I'm looking to reseal my headlight, and wondered if anyone else has used butyl sealer on an ellipsoid unit?

I was thinking something like this:

It comes on a roll, and as I understand you simply replace the old gasket with it.

The original gasket in my headlight is looking very tired, and has allowed condensation to build up.

Alternatively, are there any other suggestions? Can you still get the original gasket from Audi?

Original gasket was still available from Audi last I checked. I would not recommend using the one in your link as they are quite sticky and messy. I originally used that for when I did the rear lights job so they are useful for that!

I used similar stuff for my rear light cluster.

Seemed to work well, not sure about taking it off though

Be warned, its nasty stuff to work with though!

Thanks all, I will have a chat with Audi's parts dept.

          Update:

In case it's of use to others, I Just got off the phone to Audi, and was told the part is £11.26 including VAT.

So there are a few parts left direct from the manufacturer.
