    Avant Tailgate Glass

Anybody know how to remove the tailgate glass on the Avant ? I guess it is bonded in - Can it be removed without breaking it ? I need to have the tailgate resprayed so the glass will have to come out...

Got a feeling you cannot. Check scillyilses post on RS246 about accident repair. I am sure there was some reference.

Yes the tailgate glass is bonded in and even though my glass was'nt broken after I was rear ended - the Audi dealer said they are more or less impossible to remove without damaging/breaking.

I would have the tailgate re sprayed with the glass in - as it's flust bonded, it's quite easy to mask.

The trouble is I've got some rust bubbling underneath the glass so I think it will have to come out to get to the rust....

I had a look at ETKA and the picture is cr&p. It lists the trim separately but it's got a picture of a saloon. I guess I could just get away with fitting a new trim then ?

The trim is fitted around the glass before it's bonded in. You'd have a job getting a new trim without removing the glass first.

You need Audi special tool No. SH007; Window removal tool.

Not an Audi dealer though. They normally don't lend their tools. You have to buy them at the back door.

                              LOL.

I suppose an insurance claim will be the cheapest way. Anybody know if elephant windscreen cover includes all glass ?
