  • Door sill plate removal

    Hi.
    Has anyone got a method of getting these off for painting inside of the doors? One is damaged anyway. Can I get replacements?

    They come off with a (low) heat gun and a scraper *BUT* not in one piece. You didn't say which car. I know Audi Tradition had made new C4 (4 dr) plates.

    C4 = 4A0853491 Left, 492 right. Scuff plate outer - sill panel (self-adhering).

    S2 2dr = 895853491 Left, 492 right. Scuff plate outer, also use (D 438 515 A1) which I would take to be a contact cement

                  I got one from TPS a couple of months back, £90 a side on trade.

                    its crazy money for what they are. Mine went the same way as yours and i peeled mine off. It broke a lot and underneath was pretty grubby with mud stuck where you couldn't see it.

                    I got some thick exterior grade adhesive vinyl in satin black and used that as a replacement.

                    Yes it isn't factory but it does actually look alright if you take your time applying it and it costs pence, wears alright, won't shatter and can be replaced for pence as well. I figured the plastic was there to protect the paint and then thought how much abuse does it actually get? Not much is the answer as my vinyl is still good after a year.
