    Driver's side mirror motor?

My electric adjustment for my driver's side mirror doesn't seem to be working - it goes in the vertical axis ok, but just nothing happens in the horizontal. Passenger side one works in both axes, so I know it's not the switch in the car. What could be the problem for it to work only in one axis? Is the motor broken, or could it be just a loose connection?
I've not gone near the mirror yet, made no attempt to take it apart, what should I be looking out for?
It's a standard S2 mirror, havent' changed it for an RS2 one or anything.

How much would a new motor be if it is that?

This wouldn't bother me that much normally but now my better half is driving the car, I keep having to adjust the mirrors and I'm getting sick of sticking my arm out the window

There are two motors inside the mirror. One for vertical movement and one for horizontal movement. Sounds like either one of the motors has failed or the wiring is broken.

I assume the passenger mirror moves ok so the switch must be working.

You can buy just the motor plate for the mirror but it's about £45 + VAT. You'll need to get the glass out to change it though which may prove tricky without breaking it (Never done an A80 one but a lot of them are held in with very strong clips)

I would suggest trying to get a secondhand mirror (there always seems to be sets going on ebay) and taking out the motor plate from that. You'll also get a spare glass in case you break yours.

      Hi Ben
Two motors - typical, why use one when two will do eh?! Yes the switch is fine, passenger one moves ok. Good idea, I'll look out for some 2nd hand ones on fleapit. Mind you, quite a few guys here have converted to RS2-style ones - don't suppose anyone's got the old ones left have they?

Dan, I might be getting a whole new mirror myself (some to**er smashed my one to bits). But the motor is working fine. so you can nick the motor off me if you need one.

                  Hey Dan,

I'm in Norf London. We can either hook up or I can send you the motor via snail mail.
