  • plasma cutter advice

    hi all,
just after bit of advice if anyones bought anything similar that they wanna recommend
im thinking on getting a inverter type plasma cutter for all fab work im doing either with my car, other bits or other guys in my garage to borrow...
we have a compressor that's more than up for the job so its just picking a good cutter?
http://www.r-techwelding.co.uk/weldi.../Plasma_Cutter heres what ive seen so far other than sealey or draper which i like to avoid lol

whats any advice from any of you? i dont mind spending up to 8-900 if needed but if them 500 one are good ill get one of them as ill only be cutting up to 5mm at most really

I had used a couple of cheap sets before I purchased my own and ended up getting a second hand Cebora, and have been delighted with it as it gets some serious hammer.

Only downside is if cutting real thick you get through tips, electrodes and shrouds at a high rate and they are not a cheap consumable.

But don't know how I managed life before it

cheers ill look on the bay for any ceboras.. im just always worried buying second hand with stuff like that.. ive seen how the fabricators at my work treat their kit..

i did more looking on them r tech ones they seem to get really good reviews from people i would only be cutting under 5mm, mostly 1-3mm tbh
and not hammering it constantly like i bet you do.. ive seen land rovers they need a new chassis every mot haha

I have a miller plazma cutter. was a lot of money but brilliant. tips last for months. not harsh on the compressor. Cuts brilliant.

Here the r tech ones are good aswell.

I have an R-Tech TIG welder. Very good quality for the money and they are UK based and have an excellent reputation for after sales. I have always been wary of used machines for sale, bit of a lottery

was nice buying off a manufacturer with uk support lol and offered next day Saturday delivery too for what turned out to be no more

and having only used a plasma once or twice before i bought few more consumables from them to account for meltage.. specially if i go through them like i do with tig tips lol

Well recieve it today.. Got mate to run new 32a socket in put plug on machine (surprised no plug was already fitted but only couple quid) and bang cutting away

Cuts brilliant can't recommend the r-tech enough
So far only cut some 1.2mm steel and 1mm shim grade stainless and some 3mm steel and it fired through just need to be bit steadier with hand now to get tidy consistent cuts..

machine can go up to 12 or 16mm steel can't remember which so ill have to find some and test theory haha

Use a straight edge ie a piece of angle iron for straight cuts.

Yea I know that.. I ment feeding along material as too fast and don't get as clean cut do you.
