    91 3B Compressor part?

    Hi gang
Help please: my Aircon compressor is dead again and I want my aircon to work.
Can the forum advise on the part numbers for the 1991 3B compressor?

    I think it's a Denso?
    Part number?
    Price?
    Supplier?

At the moment it's so hot that I'm doing this whilst sitting in traffic! I thought I'd fixed this last autumn, but alas...

Dan you need to see what part number is on your old one please mate just to be really sure. Is it one of the early ones built for R12 and running the conversion gas? if it is then the Denso one is 034 260 805D @ £949+vat!!! from the dealers, £561+vat from me, or you might even be able to get one direct from Denso: http://www.densoaftermarket.com/parts_compressors.shtml

If its the later one on your car now....!! need to check! then it could be Zexel made and up to late 92, it was for R12 8A0 260 805 @ £409.33+vat. I doubt if you have the R134A compressor fitted, but you really should get the part number off the green plate when you can Dan, best to be 100% certain on this.

Where will the serial number be on the compressor do you know? I will go and have a look.

As far as I know it's the original R12 Denso model, that seems to ring a bell. I'm presuming that the replacement versions made now would automatically be modified for R134?

      £949+ VAT? Yikes.

Can't see the manufacturer's plate - is it underneath the compressor, ie. will I find it only by looking up from underneath the car?

Porkkis - is that definitely the right one, I see you've got a 3B too, is that what's on your car?

Ok I've found a UK supplier for the Denso compressor for £350. With VAT and fitting and re-gassing I'm looking at a shade over £600. Am I mad to do this? It was damned sweaty in the car at the weekend (spent 10 hours driving between Friday and Sunday) and I knew it would have been totally comfortable if the aircon had been working...

I got my aircon running again at the weekend after issues with the bolt that adjusts the tension on the belt.

Fitted that, thought great, until i realised i had to remove the bumper and crossmember to get the belt on the pulley lol.

Is sooooooooo much nicer with aircon running again, its a very nice feature to have, only issue i have is that the black leather seems to fight back the aircon when the sun is shining in, so im going to get a slight tint on the windows to try help with that.

Given the choice i'd never have a car without aircon again!

Well that's my thinking too. Although I'm also thinking it would be nice to save for an RS2

Neither would I. The VW Climatronic in my Passat is fantastic. I really miss it when I get back in the RS (with seized compressor).
