    Condensation?

Ok, I know it's autumn and it's very damp and getting cold out there, so I'm running my aircon to keep the car nice and de-misted, which works a treat.

My concern is when I leave the car after having driven it with the aircon on, if I return, say, 1 hour later, the interior of the car is exceptionally damp - the windows are all totally steamed up. The leather gearknob feels damp to the touch.

Running the aircon on full for 5mins will clear all the windows, but it's a bit of a bind.

Could my aircon condenser be blocked do you think? Where is the excess water supposed to drain out from?

Mine also seems to be prone to steaming up now as well which is annoying, no idea how tho, i dont run my aircon and as far as i know, no water gets in from the rain, but moisture is obviously getting in somewhere.

I thought maybe the seal from front door windows, they dont leak in, but I do get a bit of an air blowing noise whilst driving which i guess might allow in some moisture perhaps?

Like ant says it could be the seal across the cowling by the wipers letting water past a bit.

Also worth checking your drain pipe from your heater isnt blocked.

If you put blower on and there is a pipe on passenger side of engine bay near steering arm. You should feel air blowing out of this pipe because it is the drain for the aircon/heater

Same problem with mine - possibly check the rear light clusters (yes, that old chestnut!) water may be trapped in the boot??

Mine had goldfish living in them but once they had been emptied and re sealed the condensation went away...... that was last year, now it's back!!

The windows have fogged up badly in every VAG car I have ever come across in this sort of weather. Maybe just the way the ventilation system is designed some how, not usually the German's forte I have found.

Strange, my MY93 2.8 Coupe never fogged up, yet my S2 feels more like a sauna, it's so foggy

                Cheers n

Hmm, seems like this is just one of the disavantages of living in such a damp, cold country!! Just wait till it's frozen condensation on the inside of the windows...

Just this week a blue microfibre rag moved into a permanent home - my driver side door - seems to do the trick! And I thought I wouldn't need to look at fixing the AC till the summer... Strangely enough though, it's the evenings when the windows are clouded up - by morning they're usually clear.

Anyone used Rain-ex on this insides of their windows?

Yep, tried that, total disaster, instead of mist, which can be blown away with the heater, you get condensed water droplets which either stick on the windscreen and obscure your vision, or they fall off the windscreen in to your face, lap, all over the interior of the car, don't go there! Either way, the heater won't remove them, so you have to wipe them off, which then makes for a smeary greasy windscreen, which then only attracts more water droplets the next time. Totally avoid!

A dehumidifier should do the trick. I find the heater just moves the damp air and condensation to the coldest spots in the car. Mine leaks in through the pierced sunroof drain pipe (damn alarm fitters), Through a hole next to the fusebox (damn alarm fitters), and for some reason my tailgate fills with water and gets into the boot. Most annoying, but at least it doesn’t get through the door seals like my other Coupé.

Actually noticed mine getting condensation on it when parked up
It really only affects the passnger side, goes about halfway along the length of the screen and about 6 inches up.

My old RS never had the problem though

All my windows get steamed up, air-con is disconnected (i think)
due to a dicky pipe (summit else to go me list )
