Heater Matrix Renewal (non aircon)

Can't bring myself to sell it with the matrix about to let go!

Would a full write-up with pics be of use to you guys, bearing in mind it's 'only' a 2.0SE and has no aircon?

Yes most definitely, i have been changing all the plastic parts in the S2 cooling system as they have a terrible habit of going brittle, there is only the expansiopn bottle and the heater matrix what is original in my cooling system, i have aircon but a guide is better than nothing.

Good luck Hiltoa!! Im kinda hoping I don’t have to do this myself! Had to it with the old 80 but the S2 looks a complete nightmare with all the additional wiring! Mine is a problem that has suddenly appeared with my heating control knob. I noticed a very slight stiffness on the heater/temperature dial and now it will barely turn at all from cold setting– and whatever play there is doesn’t appear to be engaging the paddle inside the ducting that blocks off the hot air from the matrix into the vent ducting. Ive just got cold air (not a prob at the moment!!) I can hear the paddle thing “knock” as it his closes inside but its obviously not moving fully as it should from open to close.

I thought it was the heater control unit initially but after pulling the whole centre section of the dash out to get at it the mechanism works fine (with the cable end pulled off) - so something at the other end is not allowing the cable to operate properly. From what I can see it’s attached OK at the other end – plastic clips intact and there is some movement - tho it’s all but impossible to see properly! Could be something in the cogs at that end – or failing that the only other thing I can think of is something inside, either broken or some gunge is blocking something.

Other problem is that although I seem to have a dealer rather than factory installed aircon (or did ) Im trying to work out how different the blower unit and trucking is at mine looks a lot different and more complicated compared to these pics and the spare unit I bought off a non aircon S2. Removing even the blower unit end to get try to get nearer to my problem looks very tricky. This looks like its going to be a right mare to sort!!

Anyone got any pics of the air con version?? I probably need to investigate the FA a little more closely!
