I think I know the answer but I will ask anyway.

    Our S2's got pollen filters?

Im guessing thats where all bacteria builds up right?

Yes, you can replace then in 1 minute flat. Look under the bonnet, passenger side, near the windscreen. here is a picture of the one i removed from my car when i gave it a service just after i got the car, i dont think the Audi dealer who serviced it 6K miles before i got the car knew about them either.

I was told you should have them "cleaned" every year to remove bacteria.

        so replace every 3?

I think it is at every service, as with Oil, filter, plugs etc. Its only a few pounds, so why would you not change it? Its paper so i doubt whether you could clean it.

Is it just S2's with the pollen filter or did they fit them to Coupe's aswell ???

think they are in the coupe's too, dont quote me on that though. Its pretty easy to check though. I normally change mine each year for the sake of a few quid its worth it

They came in with the "P" designation within the chassis number. IIRC "P" was 1993.

With working down British Steel all those years, my one was flush with dust, you couldnt see the ribs in the filter, when i took it out and dropped it on the floor it ledt a pile of iron ore, new one has improved air flow a tad LOL

Hmmm strange, stealer told in the past that the holder for pollen filter was broken and was now obselete and that somebody had gaffer taped it in

Garage has just rung to day to say I need a new one but not mentioned gaffer tape.

Which is all really bizarre as I have a 91 3B coupe
