    Split water manifold hose

So this morning the car decides to dump all it coolant courtesy of a gaping big split in the small hose around the water manifold What is the best/easiest way to get to it? Just by removing the power steering pump, or has the rad got to come out too - bearing in mind it has the aircon system as well.....

If its the case of the former, I presume Mr Nugents "how -too" is the way to go about it.......

Its pretty straightforward... going on memory here -

    1. Decativate the bomb with lots of brake pedal pumps (engine off) until pedal goes hard. You MUST do this first or you risk personal injury when loosening high pressure PAS fittings on the pump.

    2. Remove trim panel above main radiator.

    3. Disconnect PAS line where it meets the cooler hose in front of the radiator - this drains *most* of the fluid out of the system - don't reuse it.

    4. Loosen the two high pressure PAS hoses from the pump - you need largeish sockets for these - 22 or 24mm IIRC. Carefully remove the O-rings with these bolts - they should be renewed of course. Prepare for some fluid loss here of course.

    5. Loosen the 13mm hinge bracket bolt on PAS pump - nearest engine

    6. Loosen the PAS belt tensioner - 13mm again - nearest the radiator side. This is a threaded bar used to position the pump correctly. The pump will lower gradually as you loosen this bolt. Keep going until you can slip the belt off.

    7. Remove the hinge bolt where the pump mounts onto the engine - be careful not to drop the inboard nut as you may never see it again !

    8. Now you can remove the PAS pump by hand - you'll have to tease the low pressure hose (where it connects to the cooler) through the hole in the ducting under the pump.

That's as much as I can remember ! Refit is reversal or removal... Don't lock the hinge bolt until you have PAS belt properly tensioned... and check the cleanliness of filters in the high pressure banjo bolts.

Brian. Yep that is the offending hose. Effectively put paid for me getting to the Billing meet at the weekend. Ho hum.

Just got to refill with coolant and hope it does not leak

You get that hose with the full samco coolant kit.

              Well worth doing!

The samco replacement is incredibly difficult to fit as the samco's silicone doesn't stretch like the OEM rubber, it took 3 of us over an hour to get it on. Paul N was one of them and for the next batch of samco's is going to increase the diameter of this particular hose.

Your thinking of the Stat hose to the thermostat Angus, if it was the one indicate by Brian then it's the small skinny one that feeds the turbo.

Jamo, the one at the front.

Absolute ****** to get on. Trouble being the hose only bridges about a 15mm gap. It has to shoved on the turbo coolant pipe almost all the way down , then consequently pulled back up onto the other end (water manifold ?)

Withe jubilee clips on too it does not give you much to grip. Brute force and ignorance won in the day along with suffering bloody knukles. One of the few times I wish I had smaller hands

I may get the Samcos at a later date when I get round to powder coating a few pieces again.......
