I was wondering is it possible to fit RS2 air con device (one with double settings for driver and passanger) to a standard S2 3B (which has the old type air con device) ? Is there something else neccessary?
The RS2 aircon doesn't have the option for both passenger and driver, the aby which is the same as RS2 does not have it (atleast mine doesn't) I guess the cable harness differs, the fitting of the package should be able to go smoothly, but I'm not sure if the harness fits to the digital display that the RS2 and ABY air-con unit has.
Hope this helps..

Hmm I thought the double display that RS2 has is for dual controls... Anyway can anyone tell me what is the difference between the old type (3B) and new type of air con unit? And did anyone upgrade successfully?
I'm pretty certain the climate control in RS2 is identical to ABY, AAN engined cars and others of the same time period. Our 97 A4 had single zone climate control, but the 01 AR has dual zone.
All of this is moot for RHD owners BTW - they all got the cruddy manual air conditioning - I'd love to do the conversion to the automatic version but its major work as a different compressor, control units and loom is required... Non trivial stuff !
I was thinking of upgrading automatic climate control of 3B to the one of RS2. The 3B is single display, while RS2 is dual. I could not find the difference anywhere and since I can get the RS2 one cheap I was wondering is it a worth upgrade or not?
I think you mean the dual display where one display mainly shows the temperature, and the other fan speed. Like the one fitted to to the A3 upto MY2000 for example. Not dual zone.
You can't just change the control unit. You have to change all the air boxes inside the dash and also the evaporator. Of course wiring loom too.
Newer type control unit also needs compressor speed signal. I don't know if this is mandatory or not but I presume it monitors belt slip and probably turns the compressor off if excessive slip is detected.
IIRC nickname Nero has done this but he's not around too much anymore. Search his old posts.
