  • Ventilation offline!?!?!?

    Hi all,

I´m in need of help here, my ABY as an automatic climate control and recently the fan(ventilator) goes offline for a few seconds and than comes back online.....any ideas on this?
I fear it´s the beginning of the end and it happens with the AC on and off and I also hear the compressor coming on and off with a click somewhere inside the car, I know the compressor isn´t always on but haven´t noticed the click before, like a relay clicking on and of which turns the compressor on and off!

Any help will be much apreciated!

Perhaps low on gas in the AC system?
That can cause it to oscillate like you are describing, low pressure switch activating.
There is a a relay for the compressor and if it is on - off -on - off I guess it is becomes more audible for you.

Enter the diagnostic function on the climate head, hold recirc button and then press arrow up (for getting air in upper channels).
Then go to CH 52 and see if it gives you any clues while it switches on & off.

Here's some more info about the diagnostics.

      Even better, a pdf:

Thank you, I´ll run a diagnostic per instructions in the pdf!

Do you have any ideas of why do the fan goes of for a few seconds and than comes back on?

Went to the car and run a diagnostic as in the pdf, and in ch 1 got a 18.3 code "Fresh air blower voltage, sporadic" what does this mean and how can I correct it?

ch 52 and ch 53 showed g1,g2,g3 in both so everything is ok in there!

Hmm, I don't know actually but it is a good clue.
The climate control unit seems happy about everything except that it is noticing something dodgy with the blower.
If you remove kick panel and glove box you should be able to measure voltage at the blower and see how it is behaving.
Maybe it is a corroded connector somewhere or the brushes maybe has worn out in the blower motor?

You can maybe first measure voltage at the fuse for the blower, don't know right now which one that is.

If you need to install a new blower it is a bit of a pain in the *** because of the plastic air tunnel that gets in the way.
Unclip that plastic runner and you should be able to squeeze the old one out and the new one in.
            Did this myself last weekend.

Thank you, I´ll try to do as you say, see if I can find and solve the problem!

Well after the ventilation started to turn on and of all the time I had to bite the bullet and dismount the glovebox and have a look, diconnected the ventilator terminals sprayed some contact cleaner and conected it again............100miles later no more problems. Time to mount the glovebox and erase the error code!

                Happy!
