Christ!! Brave move. You must have some deep pockets
brave indeed..... is there no decent aircon specialist nearby?
@DaveS: you can fairly easy get the diagnostics from your Climatronic module, that's how I found that the reason for not starting the compressor is "low refrigerant pressure", give me yr e-mail address and I'll mail you a pdf with the codes.
My 'local' dealer have been pretty good over the years with our 'fleet' of Audis and I'm still dealing with the same service people 5 years on. We'll see if I'm still so happy after Friday ! Perhaps I should hav taken out the extended warranty after all

General rule on extended warranties is that they do NOT cover air conditioning systems, so don't lose sleep over that one.
Funnily enough the Audi warranty one does cover it in most cases.
I took out the extended Audi warranty on my A3 TQ as the climate is likely to expire this year (I was warned of this by the dealer themselves) and the cost to fix the bits involved was 850+. The cost for the A3 was approx £600 + VAT. Similar one for the RS2 was just over £1000. Also helped that the A3 is my company car and I can reclaim the VAT.
Clauses are:
What is covered
...
* Heating and Cooling
All parts related to heating and air-conditioning systems and engine cooling
...
What is not covered
Items that fail due to external accident damage
So my stone through condenser scenario would not be covered, but a leaky pipe should be. Previous experience with the Audi warranty scheme on the RS2 was good when I was using it as my everyday car, I didn't extend the warranty as I wasn't going to use it much this year !
Took RS2 into dealer to have the aircon checked. Result, they regassed it and put a dye in as there was no obvious leak, and aircon was working OK.
They said to give it a couple of weeks and then bring it back in to check for leakage. Initially didn't feel as ice cold as it usually does but after 5 miles or so it was back to normal. Still blowing cold now.
They also fixed my airbag warning light and fitted the indicator assembly that I'd previously bought (old one had a crack in the lens)
I've been going to the same place for 5 years which helps, and its the same people on service reception and the same salesman I deal with. From their side we've run 6 different Audis during this period, all serviced by them, bought 2 of them from them, and we run 3 simultaneously at present. So they get a decent amount of business out of us.
