When I go to change the fan direction (where the air is going to blow, ie windscreen, face, legs etc) I have to turn the fan off so I can turn the direction knob. What is going on? How do I fix this issue? Anyone had this problem before?
Oh, the car is a RHD RS2, manual aircon.
I've not had the problem but one possibility is that the flap has become detached or broken at one of the pivot ends so that the pressure of the airflow with the fan on pushes it out of line enough to stop it moving. The fact you've got air-con should mean that something like a twig wouldn't be able to get through to the heater to jam a flap.
If you remove the panels above the driver & passenger's feet you can access or at least see the flaps moving on the heater and see if you can get any more clues.
Loath to say you'll have to take the heater out to investigate as you'll find plenty of posts on here explaining that it's a long job, but if you do, take the opportunity to replace the heater matrix whilst you're in there. Hopefully, someone else on here will have some ideas.
