Superb, i'll start removing the bits to get to the dash itself on Friday afternoon with a view to finishing Saturday. All being well, if i get the replacement off Pete by Friday.

          Heater matrix woes...question..

How many here have had to do this job on their cars? How many are still running with their OEM matrix? I had a dealer wrench tell me that it is not age that kills a matrix but overfilling the cooling system & causing undue pressure in the cooling system , not bleeding the system correctly..again undue pressure or not replacing the coolant when it gets too old and it starts deteriorating the matrix along with the radiator..

ordered a new matrix from pete today, just as others here have done. 45 quid. Thats spot on in my books, could've saved 15 quid more by going to ECP for the pattern part but for the sake of it I'd rather give it to someone like pete who is at least trying to keeps parts for our cars available!

So as soon as it arrives here I"m gonna start right into getting it fitted!

Thanks again for all the input and suggestions!

The original heater matrix is made by Valeo. I have the part number somewhere, but I found it was cheapest from my dealer anyway.

My original matrix looked fine, but then, so did the rest if the coolant system.
I think most coolant system degradation are probably down to lack of coolant refreshes over the years, allowing corrosion to set in.

@madagent - was that Agnews you were dealing with ?

Certainly was paul, the one and only. Don't know what anybody else's experience of them is but I for one really hate the place.

Same place quoted me just over £2000 to replace the rear plastic window on the cab - not a whole roof, just the window . Seriously like come on - I could drive the car across the water and have it replaced five times for that amount, and that includes the boat and petrol!!

I'll post the valeo part number as soon as the matrix arrives.

Good man - they have the luxury of a monopoly here on OE parts, and loads of customers who just have to bend over and take it - there is nothing like the choice of trustworthy independent garages over here to give them other realistic options - and the vast majority of Audi owners don't know one end of a spanner from the other.

now that is the truth alright!

pete said he's posting the matrix tomorrow (fri) but with the crazy post goings on at the moment I'm not sure when it'll arrive!!

cheers for the dashboard guide as well, top job on that. I've yours and the other one from a few posts back printed out and sitting in the garage awaiting the matrix! Should be a day or two of fun but I'm certainly not afraid of tackling it at all!

Paul, there's no obvious Valeo part number on the Valeo matrix, just the Audi one. On both of mine it just says Valeo BREVET EMP 1 IND along with 894 819 031

Take a look at the online catalogue for the numbers.
