You really mean on the cylinder head? The core plug on the head should be in your only left with the hole in the Block.

                    From my archives.

Never mind that. Why does a man of your experience need a diagram, Mr Bullwon?

can leave the thermostat in but drill a small hole through it like 6mm dia, then test it so see how it behaves, ive had a few audis with the thermostat stuck open and fuel consumption is ***** and they never really get up to temperature. i have an electric water pump wired up to my vems rad fan output, and the rear fans are contolled by a normal thermostatic switch with a manual overide. i had one of those davis craig thermostatic contollers but they dont seem to be great so never bothered fitting it

you need to run a small diameter pipe from the top of your rad to the expansion bottle, prob as well to run a small one from your thermostat housing aswell as these are the areas most likely to be air locked, also makes bleeding a lot easier
