80' Cabby Fan after run question???

Hi folks thought i'd put this up on here as i'm a bit bamboozled at the minute. Checking through threads i recently saw that someone with an audi 80 cabrio was having problems with their after run fan, but my 94' 2.6 , auto model doesnt seem to have one or if it does it doesnt seem to work. I've never noticed the fan kicking in after its been switched off but having noticed it on my brothers S2 ( my ex S2) its got my mind ticking.

I recently changed the thermostat switch as the main fan wasnt kicking in and when i bridged it to check both fans worked. Just wondering whether its a feature on my cab. All the fuses related to the fan seem to be in order but i havent got a clue about the relays if relevant.

The car seems to run hot at around 100 degrees and the fan does kick in and the temp doesnt rise much above 100 though it does smell like it is and the windscreen also seems to steam up in the middle until i switch the heater on. I'm also losing coolant though there doesnt seem to be any obvious leaks.

Can anyone give me any pointers as i cant really afford to get fleeced by a mechanic so at least if i have an idea, i can act as if i know what i'm talking about!!!

So can anyone give me an idea of the squence of events with regards to the fan/after run fan and where i should look if i do have a problem.
    Any help appreciated.

    Cheers

Hi I have a 95 2.6 and I have never had the main fan kick in even when it runs just shy of 100degree there doesnt seem to be any signs of overheating like coolant loss or steam on the window but any other car I have had the fan would have kicked in by then.
since you changed the thermostat switch what temp does the main fan start?
if your losing a lot of coolant then you might want to get a pressure test just to make sure its not the head gasket etc

Cheers buddy, had a little nosey this morning and in actual fact i think the cooling system needed to be bled but still bemused by the lack of after run fan, does your fan run on when the car is hot after you have switched off???

Both fans came on so i know they work but switches off with ignition unlike the S2 but i guess that perhaps the after run fans are for the turbo on the S2. Be good if you could let me know otherwise i'll drive myself mad as i cant find anything about it on the net.
