I had the same problem with mine 2 years ago and I was lucky. The heater matrix was full of what my specialist described as 'sludge', I think because the car had been used infrequently before I bought it. After much time, and lots of patience he finally managed to get the sludge to unsolidify and it eventually turned into a liquid that could be drained from the system.

It saved a dash out job and much $$$$$$$ so I will forever be grateful for that. I remember driving it round for months with cold toes and hands, my other half was not impressed

I have done mine twice in 12 months due to stupidly trying to save a bit of money by putting in a second hand item. The first time I did it I was faffing for 2 days. The second time I did it I realised that I did not have to remove half the amount of stuff that the guide says and it took me 3 or so hours. You can get away with not removing the heater control wires and just push it to one side which is a great help.
