    Radiator fan

my radiator fan stays on when I connect the battery up, it was a problem that came with the car when I bought it but I havent had a battery on until now because I've been putting the head back on

I've tried it without the thermo switch connected, changing the relays and what i've read in the other threads but nothing?

BUT! on the diagram on front of the fuse/relay box under the bonnet, there's six relays, and number 2 is missing? which is a radiator fan one? is it meant to be missing?

    its a 3B

    cheers for any help

Hmm, maybe wrong, but i would imagine the fan delay is the relay that keeps the fan on after you turn the car off if the coolant is at a certain temperature along with the aux water pump?

so, now I've got my car running, can anybody help me with this again please because its still on the to do list?

the fan (as well as the auxillary water pump I've found) still comes on as soon as a battery is connected up to the terminals, I'm not clever enough with electrics

          thanks for any help again

There's a good chance that your after run ecu/relay (it's not just a relay) it's faulty.

Take it off and the fan should stop.

Don' remember where the ecu/relay it's located in the S23B but on the RS2 it's on the group under the steering wheel I assume it's there for the S2 aswell.

Here my previous post with RS2 part number.

I agree with Stefano 100% on this one. Pull that relay out... Should be in auxiliary position #12 on a 3B.

Refer to page 11 of this link to find #12 on your car ---> http://www.s2central.net/S2_Schemati...tic_Primer.pdf

At least - thats where it *should* be !

Alternatively... pull relay #3 in the main fusebox... there are some weird variations of radfan wiring in the 3B though.

So check you have normal radfan operation on the other two speeds by bridging each radiator switch contact pair (F18 and F54) as this should activate radfan thru relays 6 and 11 on the 3B.

Main #11 is for Hi Speed 1
Main #06 is for Hi Speed 2 (sounds like a jet taking off)

Main #03 is for Lo Speed - afterun only under control of relay in Aux #12

More I think about it... Aux #12 is best one to pull, cos if it is locked on then it will be running the turbo coolant pump too

right, I read everything I've been given and went to the garage, I removed the dash panel from inside the drivers side footwell

looked for position number 12 relay on the board and couldnt decide which one was number 12 because they are scattered about a bit and a couple are missing?

so I decided to try and pull each one out to see if it stops the fan and pump but no?
then I went to the fuse box and pulled out the relevant relays and they still wont stop?

here is what I see from the drivers side footwell

I also tried the relay held on this side of the dash with a little metal clip

I told you that 3B wiring diagrams are a complete PITA - what year is yours - actually what is the chassis number more importantly... dont post all the numbers if you wish for privacy.

haha yep, its a bit confusing to say the least, it is a 92 model and the chassis number is WAUZZZ8BZNA006026

is relay number 305 in the right place? there are also wires going into the back of the panel in the space to the right of that one but no relay? just to confuse things a little more

Your radfan relays in main fusebox are 2, 3 and 11

The afterrun relay is aux position 14 on yours

From top left you have :

                              13 empty
14 should be J155 for afterrun
15 should be J123 front bulb monitor
                              16 empty
                              17 empty
                              18 empty

next row down from left to right

01 numbered 76 must be something to do with early ABS but cannot find it in diagrams - I *hate* that
                              02 empty
03 numbered 305 is something I dont understand... please read part number off that relay
04 would be J153 for compressor clutch control on aircon cars
                              05 & 06 for electric windows & sunroof

Bottom row from left to right

                              07 n/a to RHD
                              08 ditto
                              09 empty
