  • S6 cabin filter question

    Hi,
I wonder if somebody could clear this one up for me. I've got the dash out of the S6 and so want to do everything that's going to need doing while it's out. On my list are replacing the cabin/pollen filter and the heater matrix. Question is, my S6 has climate control and this thread says it doesn't have a pollen filter:

    http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthr...+pollen+filter

but prj's for sale thread says he's replaced the cabin filter

    http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthr...abin+filter+s6

Mine's a 1995.5 S6 avant. Be grateful for any advice.

    Cheers,
    Tom

Also, if anyone has the part numbers for the S6 heater matrix and cabin/pollen filter I'd be grateful.

Of course you have a pollen filter or if it´s called cabin filter. Open your hood and dismantle your plastic cover nearest the cabin, on my LHD it was on the passenger side near the strut tower.

        Tom,

Can't help, but very interested in this thread as I also want to replace the pollen filter in my S6. I think it is in the scuttle under the bonnet, but not at all sure.

Do you have any photos of the dash out / coming out ?

Also concerned about my matrix as well.

        Thanks.

Hi - don't have any photos of the dash coming out but it wasn't too bad.

The secret was buying the C4 Haynes manual - plenty of detailed instructions/photos in there. It took a while but not at all daunting now I know how everything fits together.

Pictorial Instructions for installation of a Mann CU 3562 Cabin (Pollen) Filter in a

Unless you have a US UrS6 built between July and Dec. 1995 with VIN 121xxx, you do not have a 95.5 model, you have the identical 1996 model year (MY) UrS6 (the 95.5 thing was Audi's work-around for the OBD2 rules that went into effect for 96 MY cars).

On to the point, this post and its hyperlink should provide you with everything you need to change the pollen filter from the engine bay side of the windscreen:

Brilliant - thanks very much for your help as always

Don't suppose there's anything similar to show how to replace the heater matrix?!

NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!

Back away from the dash and the console. NO need to remove them to do the heater core (matrix). That is the way the book rate would be quoted (like 12 hrs). However, in actual fact it would almost all be done from the scuttle.

Try this (just remember that is was written for a LHD car):

                    HVAC Blower R&R DIY pdf.

Further to "NO NO NO NO NO", here is a pdf of a DIY for removing the HVAC blower (the first step in accessing the heater matrix/core from the engine bay):

Pretty sure that RHD A6/S6 models and in fact RHD models going back as far as the Type44 models do not have a pollen filter. Thats why the part number 4A0 819 439A filter element is listed as LHD only! The filter is 310mmX196mm flat style. The parts illustrations are not helpful as they indicate a cylindrical element.
That is the reason those with LHD cars have replaced theirs!

Thanks. Duly noted. I will change my pollen filter post to note that it is only a LHD application (as well as the previously noted, NOT UrS4 application).
