    Damn !

I've got steam coming from the n/s dash vent and my windscreen keeps steaming up when I put the heater on hot
Is this a tell-tale sign my heater matrix is on it's way out ?
For what this cost me so far I could have bought an S2

yup, not too bad a job to do on the cars if you know how the dash comes apart, don't leave it tho it will only get worse and could lead to flooding the footwells with hot water if it gets too bad

oh and I had it on a 20v q sport I used to have and it went whilst sitting in traffic luckily and just covered the screen and I could not see out, if I was driving that could have been a hell of a lot worse as it just clouded the complete screen in a matter of seconds.

It's not as difficult as it sounds to take the dash out, I don't mind helping if you want as I've done it lots of times.

I know this is irrelevant, but when I bought my MG I found that whatever I did with the heater controls, I couldn't stop steam pouring from the screen vents which made for a very interesting drive home. I took the heater out and pressure tested the matrix and it was fine, the problem was that someone had replaced the heater hose with a length of garden hose and no clamp, the coolant was flowing around the outside of the union and onto the matrix, producing huge quantities of steam!

See my for sale thread Matt
My mechanic has offered to do it and hes done it before to his own coupe !

....but due to impending drastic changes in my personal life sadly this has to go sooner or later......

I have seen the for sale thread, I thought you might want to fix it first. Good luck with the sale, I hope you don't regret it. Selling my 80 was a big mistake, luckily I was able to get it back even if it was in strange circumstances.

Going to get the heater matrix done but have to bypass it for now with a little bit of brass pipe I've got knocking about from my oil cooler woes !

I have just priced up the cost of a new heater matrix from a couple of sources and there seems to be a vast difference in prices

Quattro corner want £40 for one but Audi MD are asking £161 inc vat
Obviously I only want to do this job once so which one is the best ?

Are they likely to be identical or are we talking different manufactures ?

probably different manufacturers, i'd stick with the audi unit. At least you know that its genuine and if anything goes wrong then you will get customer service that will actually be talkative.

last 1 to burst on me happened in macdonalds drive through lol every member of staff thought it was on fire lol
id go for the quattro corner 1, you could buy 4 for the price of 1 audi matrix.. thats definately a risk worth taken in my book.
