    unresponsive urs4 climate control buttons

When my car is cold the buttons for the climate control do not respond to pushing. Sometimes pushing so hard you almost brake your pinky gets a result, other times not. It's every button, which seems weird. Once the car is warm, the buttons respond normally with a light press.

So wtf!? Any ideas. Cheers des.

    Yes!

I just fixed mine, the connections need resoldering,

See attachment, if you have damaged or missing LCD you can buy a new one from these guys too!

Attachment wouldnt load, but I bought this kit which you only need to change the LCD.

There is instructions on what you need to solder somewhere on the net, the PDF was too big to attach me thinks...

Mine works but sometimes the fan is difficult to turn down, but after switching engine off it goes back to low setting

Here is a link to the PDF I was trying to attach,

It has very good instructions on how to take everything apart and the bit you need to solder is at the end in the Appendix.

For that money I have a simpler solution.

Every now and then there are used good working units lying around for sale. I got one recently off a forum member for 25£.
You unbolted the face to reveal a plastic connector and simply by changing the back of your climate to the new face plate, job done. No soldering or faffing around.

But dont they all go sooner or later?

The new LCD is supposed to be a longer lasting type too, apparantly

Not necessarily. Some brake sooner due to misuse or humidity etc. My original one is still going strong and the second hand was in even better state. Better yet the early A4/S3 with climate control use the same panel. Its the rear electrical plate that changes and of course you cannot just ift it on the rs2 as the commands are different. But the panel is the same and 2 minute job to change. It was for me at least who don't have experience in soldering

I had the exact same problem, but thanks to the advice on the forum in this thread, it's now all working.

All I had to do was resolder the ribbon connector (as mentioned in the appendix of that pdf). It didn't even look like anything was wrong, but resoldering it has solved all the button issues. Mine only malfunctioned below around 5C, same as yours.

My advice would be to take out the head unit (2 mins job - prise away the surround, two hex keys and unplug the connectors at the back), resolder the ribbon connector and try it. Might be all you need to do.

                        Tom

                          Brilliant thread, very helpful!

The heater controls on my URS6 isn't working, but I have a replacement (which I'll check prior to swapping over) so yeah this is my job for the weekend, wish me luck!

BTDT, 2 of the CC got the same issue.I first cleaned off the contact buttons with eraser(rubber). No luck.I ended up puschasing the good used one.
this happened to mine around 5 years ago on my UrS6.i remember at that time only a few users had the same problems.i also checked all the soldered
joints and seemed to be good.i should have checked the ribbon connector at that time but who's know!? ;-)
