  • EVAP, is this normal?

I have been looking at most of the engine functions in my quest to sort out all of the small niggles before mapping it.

Noticed that the car is running rich, "long time" lambda adaption (field 9) was at 135 in Group 000 in VCDS (should be close to 128).
Cleared that (pulled ECU fuses) and fuel consumption went down as of now.

However, the Group 009 field 3 seemed a bit weird being steady at 0 when car was at hot idle.
I believe this is the measurement of the solenoid on PCV system.

Should I troubleshoot this and how in that case?
I've done output tests and the solenoid clicks.
Not sure how else to test it?
I tried searching the forums and most posts was about how to remove it.

I attached a picture from S2Central that I think is telling me that something is wrong.

I am under the impression that the evap valve is not meant to operate during idle when mixture needs to be perfect, but in situations such as overrun. Maybe that's when you are meant to see that fluctuation ? Not sure

That could be the case Vas.
It doesn't throw a fault code for me.
When I put my hand on it I thought I could feel it operate but that might just as well be some other vibration transfered to it.

I've tried to Google the N80 valve and also looked at Daves summary at quattroworld(?) and I still don't understand how it is meant to operate.

Could be that I'm chasing a red herring.

In vems I had this operate from 7000rpm down to 1500 on overrun only. That was the most ideal situation it could act when I discussed it with Marc at efiexpress

That is a good tip for when I go with a standalone ECU, will keep that in mind.

Found some information on S2Central.com, quoted below.
I need to do a new VCDS session and make sure that I have not entered Group 000 & Group 001 when looking at the EVAP I guess and see if it makes any difference.
          I don't have a MIL bulb unfortunately.

Basic settings are used at warm-idle as a template for the overall health of the engine - as per the table below. Obviously the 3B only supports Group 000, but Group 001 is also provided on the basic settings screen with the ABY engine (also true for AAN & ADU). Importantly, in basic settings mode, the ECU disables the activated charcoal filter solenoid (EVAP) to ensure that mixture readings are not influenced by it's operation. Another little known fact is that the MIL bulb is illuminated whilst the basic settings mode is engaged.

The MIL bulb remains off and the EVAP solenoid is active when in the measuring blocks screen. Trivial but important when trying to fault-find...

If you need a new valve they are NLA from Audi but priced at approx £140 better find second hand anyway

              Thanks for the tip Rikki.
If the valve is shot I'll try to source a new one if possible at all.
Bigger cost now but hopefully trouble free for a long time.... with emphasis on hopefully.

Just use a newer style valve & change the electrical connector.

Do you have any part number for new type of valve and connector?
Or a model/engine series it is used on?

                    Did another scan yesterday.

Now I saw some values after a while.
Started at 0 and then changed after ~1 min, not a rapid fluctuation but maybe changed value every 30th-60th second.
So I guess it is OK.

All other values seems to be within spec except Engine Load which is hovering at ~40% [should be 26-35% at idle] and Injector on TIme at 1.5 ms [should be 1 - 1.3 at idle].

Is it any reason for concern?

                    Here's Group 9, field 3 shows N80.

Gee, I thought the N80 information that I consolidated was very clear.
