  • Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR)

My apologies for the stupid question, but does the S2 have EGR?

I don't remember seeing anything like this in my engine bay, but still I found the following in a -94 S2 brochure:

I don't think the ABY/ADU engines have an EGR system. At least they don't show one on ETKA for them.

I know the PD Diesel boys have found that by decreasing the cycle on the EGR valve they can increase power and spool up on their turbos. Revo have done it on a PD 150 Golf for one of the lads in our Coventry workshop. He's now running 200bhp+.

No EGR on all 20V turbo I5 engines that I know of.

The 3B, AAN, ABY & ADU do have an EVAP system for venting fumes from the fuel tank, and they do have a PCV system for recirculating blow-by fumes (and yuck oil vapour) from the crankcase back to the inlet... but definitely no EGR.

Yep, the editor had probably been sniffing too much EVAP fumes when he put that picture in the brochure.

Or then they just tried to make the S2 look environmentally friendly

My Mondeo has EGR, The EGR valve constantly cause problems and leak air into the inlet and make the engine run rough and lower the MPG.

          Great Idea!

EGR is for nothing but better emissions. Its crap and who helps it. The S2 was never fitted with it. As for the Mondeo system..... best off replacing the valve for a couple of blanking plates. EGR casues many running faults on nearly every make and model of car. Especially diesels.
