  • Throttle Body options?

hi, just wondering if there are any options for my TB on my typ85 CQ?

as some of you may know, i'm running a 2.5 GTi engineering 5 Cylinder lump now, so i'm just wondering if there is a a bigger throttle body that will fit from another audi maybe?

or are there ANY other options for getting more air in there?. lol

    Few threads on this.

Contact Aelred or buy the enlarged one from 034 both 70mm based on the stock TB or the VW VR6 body with adapter.

If you want larger than that then it's one from a Mustang 80mm I believe.

Mark Halligan is running one he'd be a good source to speak to.

I recently got rid of the 80mm Holley Mustang TB I had, as it was really a POS, the shaft was running in bushes (which leaked air) and the butterfly was a poor fit in the TB bore. I reckon I could have carved one out of wood that would have worked better....

I bought a far better 80mm TB like THIS from this seller on the bay. Excellent piece of kit and it works well, it's adjustable, has sealed bearings, comes with a weld on mounting flange and it's easily adapted to take the TPS. Plus it's cheap too!

I thinking WAAAAAY back, in my early VW CIS days (mid 80's), there was something called the Weber Big Throat. It was a big (don't know/remember how big) single butterfly throttle body that bolted up to the typical VW/Audi CIS intake manifold (with an adapter plate that came with it). You might be able to find one on eBay or a swap meet.

Is there any reason you can't to this to an ABY?

The standard NA is a sequential twin TB. You can get the larger one enlarged further, Aelred might be able to help? The Audi TBs are usually an upgrade for mk.1 Golf GTis but having though that they were also an upgrade for a mk.2 digi 8v I then found that they're the same so another option is to source an enlarged Digi mk.2 one but as it's for a Golf it'll cost you loads.

I believe thats what I said in the 2nd post This is what Aelred and 034 do.

As 034 are in america Aelred is a better option for people in the U.K

Has anybody done the upgrade from 65mm to 70mm? Whats was it like, did you notice an increase in throttle response?

                    cheers

From memory you can fit a VR6 TB with an adaptor plate.
