  • Where to purchase 3" SS for exhaust.

Right, I've got a week off next week as the garage where I now work is closed, I've packed in building as I'm sick of dealing with customers. However we're still going to be there doing some tidying up and finishing off loose ends ect. This means I can get my S2 up on a lift and finish fabricating my exhaust, finally!!! This is the last major task I have left before the car is finished and I'm really excited about getting the old girl back on the road.

I was going just going to tack up butt joints and get the thing finished by a pro using TIG and back purging ect. However after repairing a couple of systems for customers this week I feel my welding skills are up to the job, I'll be sleveing and MIG welding my joints as we don't have a TIG at work, though we do have a bloody good MIG. This will save me a fair bit of cash which means I can get it live mapped sooner.

I know a few members on here have done the same and I'd like some advice on the best places to purchase the steel. I don't need a lot, as I have a Jetex 2.75" back box and a **** hot 3" down pipe with flexi joint fabricated by Alex in Sweden.

Of the top of my head I need.

2 meters of straight 3" pipe.

    2 45 degree bends.

    1 30 degree bend.

    4 or 5 sleving pieces.

I'd also like some V'band flanges, enough to do three joints, so I can make provision for a front box to get the thing on track.

Any advice would be most usefull, I'd like to order the stuff on Monday so I can take as much time as I like over getting it right later in the week.

I'm not sure if a portable bender will take 3" tube,as i've looked into it myself in the past
                  -hmm that sounds wrong

Thanks for the help guys, I've had a look at Jetex's site and think I'll be going with them as one end of both their straight pipes and bends is flaired which is ideal for me wanting to build a sleaved MIG welded system. I'll be on the phone tomorrow.

Just ordered all the parts from Jetex, went for mild steel in the end as it's half the price and I'm going to be MIG welding the system. The rear box I have is a SS Jetex item and thats the only part likely to rust through. At the end of the day it's not like the system is going to fill with condesation and I don't care if it's shiney or not.

Yep, saved over £100 by not using SS. Been practicting welding again today, did a proper job of decating my 10V Coupe using a flexi joint. I'm going to get a bit more confident before I do the S2's centre section as I want it to look tidy.
