3b cat orientation

hi,

just whipped the exhaust off the car to refit the cats to make the noise test at ADI and can't remember which way round they go

I am presuming the front is the end with the bungs which are not used???

Anyone confirm

If you look into the cats the inlet of mine had a square perforated steel plate inside it , I assume to protect the honeycomb.

I think the bungs were at the intake, however cannot be 100% sure, the protective shields definitely were in the intake end when I removed my cats, dunno what Audi were expecting to be flying down the exhaust, not going to help flow anyhow. Is the car going for a MOT then and not had them on since last time?

it passed the MOT without them BUT its apparently too loud for ADI (Failed at the VAG day back in July by miles, 103db) so i guess having passed the noise test before with them on its the cheapest way....annoyingly

Will check them before they go on might even butcher the steel bit as yep cant see the point of it

hmm, to close this thread out, the bungs are at the exit side of the cat! Reversed them and now its ready to bolt back up

Are the bungs for checking on the exhaust gases after the cat?

yeah i guess so but obviously they aren't used on the 3b
