  • AAN Downpipe?

I have just bought a S6, it came mapped (S2Central) and a 3" stainless exhaust with the cats removed.

It has the original downpipe fitted and still splits into 2 sections (45mm each) as per original, then joins back up to the new 3" system, I just don't think it makes sense.

I was going to fabricate my own downpipe from just below where the wastegate pipe enters it, I measured it at 65mm, so was going to use 2.5" stainless, would this be restrictive or better than current setup. I will be leaving the car in current tune for a while, then just do a tuning package in one go, FMIC, 3" downpipe, Turbo etc.

Stock UrS6 exhaust is easily good enough beyond RS2 levels of power...
If you are making a DP anyway, you should go 2.75"... or 3"...

Stock DP is 2.5" afaik with two 2.25" split pipes until the end.

If you look at cross section alone, then 2x2.25" gives you more cross section than 3".
You would definitely benefit from a larger DP, but the exhaust on a UrS6 is very good as is.

If weight is not much of an issue, and you want the car not to be loud, then I'd just remove the bodge you have now and find a decatted stock exhaust.

Yeah, might be a better option, I just dont like the current design of splitting into 2 and then joining again, a few hours with the welder would hopefully sort it out. I would then replace the whole downpipe with a bigger one once I change the turbo etc.

      Cheers.

        AAN downpipe

Well, was off a day from work, so decided to make a new 2.5" downpipe, it's only a temporary measure, going to replace it with a 3" at some point, prob when I change the turbo etc. The car had a standard downpipe but had the cats removed. I have attached a few pics. Just took a few hours with the welder, I used a old 3" flange from a decat for a 1.8T I had.

        Before

        After

The rest of the systrem is a 3", the exhaust note is alot deeper now, a bit loud but will do.

No probs paul, hopefulyy once I get my MG sold i'll be buying a full turbo/mainfold/DP set up, so you could have the one from my car, i'm sure it wouldn't take much to fit it.
Any luck with your ECU? Was it the Map sensor messing about?

Did you test that ? Did it affect EGT ? Any power loss ?

I'm looking forward to finally employ my RS2 turbo/injectors/EM, but I like quietness of stock (decat though) URS6 exhaust so much.

                  Thanks,

No flexi, wasn't one on the original downpipe, doesn't seem to make any difference.
