are u saying you won't connect the airbag?Originally posted by Mikes2The non airbag cars had ProCon Ten. Fitting an airbag wheel to such a car shouldn't be a problem since the airbag can't trigger.

Yeah, this is weird! Why have the airbag wheel without the function?
It's a bulkier object and maybe it's to some folk's taste, but I think all airbag wheels look a little ugly. Each to their own!!!
Personally I prefer the old flat racer type wheel. Probably lighter too! As I said, each to their own.
Sensors that trigger airbags are not normally in the column anyway? Suppose you could just disconnect the ProConTen cables if you ran functioning airbag.

Hmm - interesting point re the collapsable column. However, I've no plans on putting an airbag in the new wheel - I'm just going to knock up a replacement panel instead.Originally posted by karlblues2Alistair, isn't there also so an issue that the non-airbagged S2 had the collapsable steering column but the airbagged S2 didn't? Not sure what impact that has, but it must be worth checking out as the column would behave differently on impact and may cause the airbag to operate incorrectly? Anyone able to comment on this?

And in case anyone is wondering, I find the non-airbag S2 wheel particularly unattractive - IMHO it looks too thin and feeble in that chunky interior. And the airbag one is much more attractive with more tactice contours on the rim.....!
Doug, is it a slip ring issue? According to the 'album', both the S2 and the RS2 have the same slip ring (4D0 951 543D). This should have the indicator cancelling lump and certainly worked on my '95 ABY. It sounds to me like either the 3 spoke wheel has a totally different slip ring design - or the cancelling lump has been broken off yours?Last edited by Alistair C; 30 September 2005, 18:43.Comment

Yup off Sal - and very nice it is too!Originally posted by FourringsYou get this off Sal Alistair ? Seems I have it's airbag
Bought it off Sal to replace my blown one.
Jas - when it blows, how does the centre panel split mate? does it split around the audi logo or round the edge of that central circular area? don't suppose you've got a pic do you?Comment

Really strange, but I never took a pic of the blown airbag, must have had something to do with the "prisoner" style nightmares of big white balloons that troubled me for a few weeks after the crash.Originally posted by Alistair CYup off Sal - and very nice it is too!

Attached an image below, the airbag blew through the centre, the plastic broke roughly along the red line and folded back over in the direction of the green arrow.
You wouldn't believe how hot the bag and wheel was after it went, and the smoke filled the car
Right, suppose I'll have to go back into therapy now, thought I'd got over this

cheers - i thought it'd go something like that.
My only problem is that I don't have an Audi centre for the project.
I did just buy an A3 airbag to canibalise for this purpose - but the Git on e-bay has just claimed that he's 'lost' it. Lost it my back side - more likely he realised it was just worth more than the £21 I won it for......

Ahhh. That makes more sense Alistair. As someone else said, it's a personal choice. If you are not looking to connect to the standard S2 airbag sensors (where fitted) then it's aesthetics only and not a bad choice. Far better than the standard 4 spoke thingy IMHOOriginally posted by Alistair CHmm - interesting point re the collapsable column. Yes Mike.Totally agree mate. Unless you connected it to some S2 airbag sensors that were fitted to airbag equipped S2's. As you say, the pro-con ten equipped car wouldn't have the sensors, so I assumed some sensors would be needed to make it work, and the pro-con ten system would have to be de-activated or an airbag equipped steering column attached. But if he doesn't want to connect the airbag up, - no problemoOriginally posted by Mikes2Connect to what ? This is my point, there is nothing to connect it to.

Well - I finally got round to finishing off my new wheel centre. Perhaps not to everyones tastes - but I really prefer it to the standard skinny 3-spoke.Originally posted by Keeper of The Kitten....... each to their own.
Should fit in even better when the door trims arrive and can be trimmed in the matching Alcantara. (and then the recaros too!)Attached FilesLast edited by Alistair C; 17 December 2005, 19:21.Comment

Lord Vader's wheel...
Of course, if I get bored with the Alcantara, I could always go with the leather look plastic or even the 'Darth Vader' shiny plastic version!Attached FilesComment
