Hello mate,
Two of my last 3 Audi's have done this.
One stuck whilst on the move as with yours. I solved that one with the replacement from a scrapper, as it was an 80, so loads around and cheap bits from the local yards.
The other always stuck at zero, but a gentle flick of the perpex screen would shock it into live. I fixed that one by removing the gauge and cleaning the mech with switch cleaner, as it had some kind of old solidified grease in it. I cannot state that this is the correct or even recommended procedure and I am sure that a few of the Guru's will correct me.....but it did work and never stuck again I seem to remember applying a small amount of light oil to re-lubricate it (I prolly used silicone oil, but cannot remember for sure) but again, I stand to be chastised
Cheers n
Si
