Do get this myself.....When I bought the car and went to collect it, I filled the tank up 3/4 full and made my way home. Obviously the fuel went down, and when on the M25 about 25 miles from base the fuel gauge was showing me a quarter of a tank left. The computer was telling me I had 50 miles left. Thought I could make it back ( and then fill it with Optimax) so went past a turnoff. Within the space of a minute the computer went from 50m -40m then flashed the E and started bleeping like mad, but the fuel gauge was still showing just under a quarter......
In may last car, the fuel gauge/cpu display went hand in hand with each other. It would start flashing and bleeping when you hit the 30 miles left, and IIRC, went down in 5 mile increments.......
Could this be solved by going through the calibration process as described on S2Central.net listed here:
If the gauge shows fuel one minute and none the next then you have a knackered sender in the tank. The trip computer uses this info as well, so it's probably related.
I did a write up ages ago about how to check and fix the sender.
Do a search and you should find plenty of info.
I hate the way the dial predicts. I dont mind the computer telling me how many miles i got left, but the dial will go down at wot, then go back up when u calm the revs down.
