    RS2 seat questions

OKie guys, it's been a while, but it is time I asked some more REALLY dumb ars3d questions. Todays topic is ........RS2 seats

    1. If I had recently been on business in Germany and had acquired some nice RS2 seats...would I be correct in assuming that they would be a straight fit into my Coupe....no modding required?

    2. From various pictures on here I notice that several sets of RS2 seats have been installed with the levers on the inner sides, which surely makes it harder to get into the back. Is this always the case, or is it possible to mount the seats the other way around so that the levers are on the outer edges?

    3. Since I am 6'2" is there any way of lowering the seat position to gain more headroom? (only actually an issue when wearing a helmet)

More to follow I am sure once I actually start playing with the seats

    Cheers n

    1.no modding

2.You can change only the backrests, i already did this with my ex recaros.

    3. sure. with a flex make a cut in the legs from the top, but dont cut the leg away, leave a couple of mm, than bend it up, weld it, and the back of the sit will be lower. if you dont understand what i am trying to tell you, i will draw a pic

      2. Rs2 recaros comes with lever on each side of the seat, so there are two levers per seat.

No. RS2 seats won’t fit a Coupé, I’ll gladly take them off your hands though. :mischeif:

Seriously though, I believe some of the late S2 Coupés came with RS2 front seats from the factory. So I’m sure they won’t be much trouble to fit.

IIRC 3B does have clearance problems with one handle on the bodywork where the recess is for the cats!. Double check this.......

              OKie...an update with further questions....

Got the RS2 seats...which are REET gorgeous
Installed the seats...which are REET comfortable

I swapped out the S2 seat heating loom for the RS2 heating/electric movement loom. The only difference is the double power plug for the electrics. This obviously needs a direct source as it has inline fuses.

So my simple questions is....where is the best place to pick up the power for the electric adjustment? Loads of folks have added these seats so I am sure someone has found an Audi based solution rather than a bodge.

              Cheers n

The stock elecy seat loom has its own fuses, which then plugs into the bottom of the fuse box on the common + feed. Large black spade connector with a big thick red wire.

I have the loom somewhere at home from a US cq20v with elecy seats, it came with the loom for the heated seats which i had to seperate, Thats why i remember the fuses and big + connection ;-)

Si, All it needs is a +ve and ground connection. Do you have the heated seat loom as well? For mine i ran it along the centre console near the hand brake and then up near the other switches and heater controls.

Hey Tim, Yup, I have the loom, it is now installed and grounded where the old S2 loom was (on the earth pin on the inside of the wing, above the inner fuse board) I have lifted the carpets and done a complete RS2 for S2 loom swap, so the seat heating is working.

That's the puppy! I just cannot find a power feed with the opposing conectors hanging around in that rats nest Audi decided to shove above the pedals. I was rather hoping that the underside of the fuse box might have a spare socket with a big label saying "SIMON - PLUG LECCY SEATS IN HERE" but I am not sure Audi could see that far ahead.

So what have all the other RS2 seat owners done? A +ve feed from somewhere else or is there a socket somewhere in that mess?

                      Cheers n

I suspect that said connector is part number 443 971 976, which the FA shows as being plugged into the main fuse board on plate 972-28. Can anyone confirm or deny this please.

I will be doing the same this weekend. i got electric heated seats from and s4. The elec seat adjustment wires are always under current. i dont like that. i want them to be on only with my key turned (like for example the autoradio).

if you wanna have elec. all the time, the best thing to do, and i recomend is connecting a new wire from the battery to the seats for heating and movement. I assume you have the battery under the rear seat, so this is childs play. Just plug a new wire to the + of the battery, put a fuse as close as possible to the + and then connect this wire to both of the + wires of the heating and movement wires. but warning... you will have seat heating on all the time, so if you forget one switch on overnight...

second option: if you want to have troubles, you once again need the new cable from the battery to go to the fuse box, place a fuse there, from there to a new rele (relay? boh?), find the "black and blue" cable from the sea of cables under the dash (this cable gives power when you turn the key). connect both cables to the relay (or whatever) and from there to the seat wiring loom. this way you wil have power available to the seat only when the key is turned on.

if you want really to have troubles, and want it as it was meant to be, you must do both things. direct battery for the movement, key switch for the heating.
