    Removing main carpet

This question is applicable to saloon/coupe/avant owners.

I have removed everthing needed to remove the carpet except the footwell oulet which sits below/behind the ashray/centre console. I have removed two screws where it attaches to the housing above which holds the heat exchanger, but it still doesn't seem to want to come out.

Does anyone have any ideas or experience of hwo to remove this?

The other thing is when you remove the left hand footrest trim from the floor by tapping out the three plastic pegs they appear to be lost for ever somewhere inside the floor pan.

They don't seem to be listed as a spare part either? I think the trick here might be to tap them down but not all the way through so that they can be retrieved from the footrest trim. Is there any way I can recover the lost ones?

    I hope someone can help.

EDIT: I think the footrest pegs might be 811 853 953. Ben, Can you confirm this please?

    Thanks,
    Rob.

    See here
Explains it a bit, but I've never been there before. Seemed to work for Mike and the guys though.

I broke up a saloon audi not so long ago and I may have those pegs lying about in a small tray. Anyway you could post a picture and I will have a look and send the ones I have to you?

Also I can't remember how I took out the carpet but what I do remember is try and not tug at the carpet too much as I caused a huge rip in my one.

@Jas, Thanks for the link. Looks like I can just slide the carpet out taking it easy not to tear it. The replacement has been cleaned using Meguiars carpet cleaner and it came up pretty nice. I'm replaceing a cream carpet with a black one as it's getting a little tired.

@mak2503, unfortunately I don't have any to take a pic of if you follow me. They're easy enough to describe though. If you look closely at the left drivers foot rest trim you'll see 3 liitle circular pegs about 3 or 4 mm diameter, all they are is liitle cylinders of say 15mm length. Tiny little things really. I need them in black if you have them please.

        Thanks fellas.

There are 4 screws which you need to remove. The other 2 are hidden behind some carpet. The carpet should have a small flap which folds down.

The footrest pins don't go under the floor pan - at least mine didn't. They're probably under the soundproofing which is below the carpet. I might have some spares

The pins are also used in the seats. 171 881 500 (01C for satin black)

Hi Mike, yes I found those bolts okay. All I needed to do was ease the carpet outfrom under the footwell outlet little by little. This was tedious pulling it out from side to side, still, on the plus side, the heater assembly remained untouched.

Yep you're dead right the footrest pins they were hidden away under the fluffy soundproofing felt. I had wondered about those pegs used in the seats as I remember seeing them before.

BTW Did you remove the gear stick and hand brake levers? I didn't when taking out the old carpet but I did when fitting the replacement carpet to reduce the risk of tearing the carpet. Fitting the replacement under the footwell outlet was equally bothersome.

The finished result looks rather splendid even if I do say so myself.

            Thanks,
            Rob

I removed the centre console complete with gearknob but left the handbrake lever in place.
