    Recaro subframes

Well, just as this s2 might be going, I've finally got round to making the subframes for my recaros.

As you can see, it is possible to convert the frames from a standard 80 saloon - but it is still a fair bit of work. The release levers required swapping over, a vast amount of matalwork cut away and a spot of welding here & there. Approx 9 hours including dismantling the 80 seats.

Results are very comfortable and provide SO much more side to side support its just not true.

Oh - and there is now 40mm headroom rather than the previous 20mm.

Would be interesting to know if the genuine recaro parts lower things any further...... ?

Looks good so far. Have you got dimensions that you made the frames to?

Yup - 470mm x 430mm for the main frame - this should allow the mounting bolts to loe in the centre of the box section. Box section was 25mm square.

Welded to the top of the seat front (central) runner & level with it. Barckets & spacers made up to hold up the back edges.

laterally - difficult to describe - but when measured, the rear mounting point stuck out 15mm on one side (nearer the centre console) and ~95mm on the other side.

On the genuine Recaro mounts, it probably is there or there abouts - there certainly is a feeling of sitting low in the seat now, as opposed to a feeling of sitting on top of the OE S2 seats.

The head room is much better and you get more feedback about what the car is doing - I'm chuffed with outcome of the change - the driving position is excellent now.
