Doug, from 1990, the 5 cylinder Coupe engine grew to 2.3 (2,309cc) with catalyst, even on 10V engines.

Ah yes - my mistake - I knew there was a reason for the increase - thought that was going to 20V but it was the CATs - thanks.

I got the wheel - so I will wait to see what the fitment is and see what mods need done to get it to fit my spline and to get the indicators to reset.

The seller also has a no quibble return policy.

Doug I don't know if this helps you.

I have an 1996 RS2 steering wheel with airbag. Similar to the one you just got only it says "RS2 Porsche" on the bottom.
I had to buy the steering wheel and also a Ring for the airbag.

My ABY coupe is March 1994 and originally I had the grandfather type 4 spoke airbag steering wheel.

Airbag works ok but the indicators don't go to the standard position whith the wheel turn. I have to disengage them manually.
I don't know how it was installed because dealer did it.

I think if I buy the indicator stack from a 1996 RS2 I will have this option again.

            Cheers,
            Rafael

I have that grandfather wheel - obviously only meant for the avants

              What do you mean "ring".

I am going to see if this has a)the same spline b) the same indicator disengage tab - and modify it to work. To get the indicators to disengage it might mean just adding a tab/bolt to the wheel - I will take some pics of both when I get them.

How much did you pay for your RS2 one? Was it brand new?

I remembered the word "anillo" translated "ring" in the dealer form.
Russian ETKA didn't help a lot.
Will have to check with the other ETKA tonigh.
The only Ring I have found for the steering is this (See picture)
                Maybe someone else can help

Rechecked everything and I think you don't need anything else (forget previous post)
                    Should be a straight fit.
                    No indicator automatic reset though.
Enjoy your new steering wheel and get rid of that grandpa (avant) version
Maybe some avant driver wants yours old steering wheel

                      Doug,

Please let me know how you get on. My parent's 2.6 A4 Quattro has the same wheel and it feels to much nicer than the 4 spoker S2 airbag wheel.

I would like to fit one also!

@The Spanish... when you say airbag works ok, do you mean the controller doesn't throw any fault codes/airbag warning light, or have you really tested it?

                      Jason

                        No fault codes
Maybe Doug would like to test it in the name of science and security

Got my wheel today - looks brilliant - Luckily (I think) it is one that has the larger spline and has a nut on the end - so it is not from the facelifted A4.

If you want to change from the ugly 4 spoker to the 3 read this webpage:

Now tell me what it means! (I've used a translator)

After reading it over and over I think I may be really lucky and have the newer larger spline on my car already - reason I say this is becasue I have the newer steering cowling - When I find time I will take my wheel off and start working out what needs done.

I'll report back soon - I'm really chuffed about the wheel - now Sal won't slag mine off all the time

The only thing I don't like about my 'grandpa' 4 spoke steering wheel was the fact that it got quite slippery during the trackday because of the leather rim. I don't give a crap about looks!!

                            I have some options:

                            1. stick with grandpa wheel (I like that description, fits with the Avant 'image') and buy some driving gloves for trackdays. Trackdays were the only time that the steering wheel got a bit 'slippery'.

                            2. Change the wheel for the alcantara RS4 wheel.

To fit the latter I am going to wait and see how you get on, Doug. Guinea pig and all that. Keep us posted how you get on. I cancel my indicators manually anyway (force of habit) so am not bothered about them no longer cancelling themselves.

                            3. Something else, non airbag/Audi but haven't seen anything that would be reasonable without looking *****.

                            Lee

PS. Doug, package (MAF, Wastegate nuts, ECU) to come to you but PM me with your address.

Lee - the bit you grip pn the grandpa wheel has a smaller girth (don't know how to describe it better!) than the newer wheels - so you are probably trying to grip harder - and getting sweatier.

I like the alcantara - but my alcantara knob doesn't wear too well.

Do you not get some nice tan leather driving gloves when you buy an avant anyway

I will keep you up-to-date. Next time you are in the car see if the cowling feels like a hard shiny plastic - like the newest style - like mine - or it has the skin effect of the older style.
