      Tim,

I found that Richards site gave a good set of instructions on how to try to remove that part, read steps 3 + 4 here: http://home.comcast.net/~nweurosport...r/shifter.html

HOWEVER... it is extremely hard to get that trim number 3 off. I gave up on mine as the thing was so tight I couldn't get the damn thing off!! Have a read of Richards instructions and then give it a go!

            it is a PITA!

You can see the tab on the end of part no 2.
Well that clips over a metal piece sticking up from the handbrake lever.
If part 3 did not exist, you'd simply lift up the tab on part 2 and the handle would slide off.
But No. Part 3 then has a nice snug fit on top of the tab and thus makes it really difficult to lift over the metal piece.

I spent ages trying. Have now done it on both my coupes and have still not found the knack. By the time mine came off, the metal piece looked like it had taken a bit of a beating. It now comes off without too much effort.

This is one piece the designers didn't want removing!

PS once the handle is off, part no 3 just slides off.

If all your going to do is replace it then simply cut/hack/break the old one off!

Just try not to damage anything around it.
