  • What's under the rear seat?

I took the rear seat bench out the other day to mop up some water from a nice leak that comes from the top of the tailgate of my Coupe (which is another story)...
Anyway. I was slightly surprised by the number of "things" under there.

There seem to be 3 major electronic items.
Behind the drivers side is the Servotronic steering relay - which I've disconnected (making the steering far improved, as discussed elsewhere)!

In the middle, a small silver box

Behind the passenger seat is a very large silver box with a big interface - this looks like a CPU? I thought the engine ECU was behind the glove box somewhere? What is this one then? This one seems to be underneath a large piece of thick black plastic.

Small silver box in the middle is the air solenoid valve, this controls the rear differential lock. The other box behind the passenger seat is the ECU for the ABS system. Keep them dry! Till you sort out your leak, wrap these 3 items in cling film.

Thanks - good advice, will do that.
I had to remove the rear seat for 3 days to dry it out - the foam was soaked. :eek2:

You didn't mention about the bits of fluff and loose change, I found a custard cream and a 1970's Durex under the seat of a Morris Minor of mine.

The Custard cream wasn't soggy but the other was a bit chewey...

Maybe they get that way when they are used

I wonder how many people regret jokes on their posts?
