    Swapping heated seat elements?

I've mamaged to lay my hands on a pair of electric front seats for my urS4 but the problem is that they're not heated, however my old seats were. Is it possible to switch the elements to the electric seats and how difficult would this job be? I have a feeling that the elements are glued to the seat cushions so I take it I'd have to switch these to make it work? Also is there anything else which would need to be swapped over from the heated seat?

It is not difficult, but you need a tool to grab the seat cloth back on. If the new seats have leather on, it will be a bigger problem. The elements are glued on, but it everything else but strong. Just pull the element off. The old and new seats musta have the same trim pattern. Make a pic of both...

Thanks! The seats are identical in shape and they are both leather.

Hmm. That could mean the heater elements are sown in the leather. This could mean you have to swap all the leather. That means plenty of work.

Just looked at the Audi manual which says that the elements are glued to the padding, so can't be that hard then can it?

It is straightforward, but this doesn't mean it is easy. in the cloth seats, the elements and the cloth are separated from each other. i dunno how it is for leather seats. never opened one. if the heater is separated from the leather, means you are lucky, means you don't have to remove the leather from the seat, but just remove on one side, put the element in, and fit the leather back on. if the leather and the heater are sewn together, you will have to totally dismantle both seats. The mechanisms are a bitch to remove, specially in electric seats.

            i wish you luck.

I remember reading somewhere about replacing the elements and they said to leave the old one in place and glue the new element ontop. I fitted the heaters into standard seats without any issues. Might be of help,
