  • Alternative coupe window mechanism

I am mid flow replacing the bowden cable on my drivers side window mech and needed to check something. One link lead to another and I saw this you tube video. It looks like someone has retro fitted a Ford focus lifter into the coupe door, and it works very well indeed, in fact better than my original lifter has EVER worked! Some will say nooooooo and refuse to consider a Ford part on their car and I get that but, how many coupes vs how many focus' do you see in scrap yards nowadays? I'd be happy to bet they would be cheap as chips compared to the prices coupe mechanisms are now fetching... At my local help yourself scrapyard everything seems to be either a fiver or a tenner so it starts to make sense to me!

    Food for thought?

Some crazy people are putting electric steering columns from Opel Corsas into URQs around here so anything is permissible these days heheh - it won't be long before more and more old Audis start looking like something from Mad Max movies - Frankenstein vehicles remanufactured from anything that can be made fit from the scrap yard - given enough skill with a hammer !

As long as it looks the same on the outside and sounds the same I'm in for whatever keeps it running!

I gave up with my 3B when money couldn't buy some parts. It was off the road or barely functional so many times, including twice for a window regulator.

Someone could make a mint refurbishing S2 regulators.

Well, there is a repair cable available for about £16... Motors look like they are shared with other Audis so there is a way to fix most faults with the regulators... The most frequent problems I had with mine was the wiring and more specifically the switches. They would show no problem testing with continuity meter but they couldn't pass enough current to move the window. New switches and working ever since.
