Headlining Replacement

Hi guys,

Whilst the car is in bits as I am redoing the full interior. I am looking at relining the head lining with another material, firtsly, is itr a PITA to remove it, and also would it be fairly easy to retrim it. I was thinking of getting my hands on some dark grey rock cloth or alacantra.

I just pulled out the headlining on my 1989 90Q. It wasnt as bad as I thought. Some of it was stuck to the roof and it scared the cr*p out of me when that flexed in. In the end it popped out fine and when I placed it on the floor the creases dissappeared. Wouldn't know about re-trimming though

What do you need to remove to actually get at it. Mine could do with a good steam clean or i would be tempted to recloth too, alcantara would look awesome and i'm sure a couple of people on here have done it already to good effect.

It is glued on the roof. pull it down slowly and carefully.

is there any difference if there is a sunroof - I guess it's glued to the base of the sunroof tray is it?

Also, final question, does anyone know if you can just use a specialist upholstery glue and stick the alcantera to the existing headlining or do you need to remove the old first?

How about just spray dyeing it black??

think i'd prefer it changed to the alcantera rather than just dyeing it...

remove the old one. the problem is in the curves for the grab handles and sun visors. alcantara is not elastic enough to fit. u will probably need some sawing.
