Has anyone had an issue with the RS2 recaro's? My drivers side has developed a little bit of play - it's only noticeable really if you brake suddenly or push yourself back in the seat. After a bit of investigation, I think I've found the culprit:
It's generally not an issue but if you give a quick thrash you suddenly become aware of it and is bit distracting. The whole seat moves, i.e. not just the back rest, and it isn't play in the runners. It seems as if the bit circled above pivots slightly when you put your weight back in the seat.
I really can't see anything to tighten that could help, has anyone else ever experienced such an issues and fixed it??
The area I have circled in red is the likely cause. Check the condition of the plastic bushes on either side. Chances are they are worn through to the metal.
Be warned that these screws are thread locked and can be a nightmare to loosen. On the other hand you might be lucky and find that that are quite easy to free off.
As a temporary measure you can rotate the bushes so that latch is in contact with unworn edge of the bush to see it it improves any before ordering some replacements.
Failing that, it might be the nylon runners that are worn excessively which can also cause some movement of the seat base.
[EDIT]Hmm, just reread you post chances are the latter part of my post might hold true. [/EDIT]
Had thi sproblem with my non-Recaros . Replaced the all the runner plastic bushes and the problem went away. Had the same issue with every VW I've owned and a few more besides!

Any idea where can I get replacement bushes etc for my drivers seat? I've found that the seat back has play in it from side to side - would be great to fix it!
Replacing the glide pieces for the seat base make a world of difference. You'll be able to move the seat back and forth properly as well. you need to change the following parts and clean out/regrease the runners.
Code:
893881203 2 GUIDEPIECE 1.46 ea
893881203A 2 GUIDEPIECE 1.46 ea
435881203A 2 GUIDEPIECE 2.28 ea
893881195 2 BUFFER 2.28 ea
443881295 2 BUFFER 1.18 ea
On the backrest those two bushes mentioned above are:
Code:
19188129901C 2 BUSH 3.64 Recaro
171881299C01C 2 BEARING 0.66 Normal Coupe
All prices are retail exc. VAT

Yep, i too had a rocking seat in my old vr, new runner bushes sorted it. Think they were a couple of quid from the dealers.
I had the recaros in my mk2 golf vr6 and i had play in the same area(failed the MOT for it)If you take the seat out and turn it upside down i found that the bar from the electric motor had snaped where it conects to the seat. Which is the hight ajuster. I got it welded up and no more trouble. But it was a bit annoying when you gave it a bit on corners or on the brakes.
Are these applicable to the RS2 Recaro seats or the Standard S2 seats or BOTH??
