  • Smoke in steering-compartment

    Hi all,

Yesterday something weird happenend when turning the ignition on.

Right after turned on ignition there was bad smelling smoke coming out of the wipers-switch-hole (behind the steering wheel)
    Hope this explains it.

I immediatly turned everything off. After getting rid of the bad smell i turned it on again and everything seems to be working just fine

Anyone has had same problem here? And can it do any harm?

I'm planning to get a fire ext....thingy in the car

    Thanks in advance,

LOL dont go there, when i bought my car it had an aftermarket alarm/imobiliser box installed. The wiring for it was routed above the steering column which wore through and exposed the main + power to the cars earth = lots and lots of smoke from under the dash.

You never seen anybody get a 10mm spanner out of the toolkit and disconnect a battery so fast, no joke i think i did it within 10 seconds

Sounds like dust build up. I've had it before.
take the cowels off and blast out the wiper and indicator switches with an air line.
