    Jammed fan speed dial!

    Hi,

Wondered if anyone can help. My fan speed dial is jammed at speed 2. I can turn the speed up but the dial will not move below speed 2. This drives me nuts as the fan is always going!

I've put up with the problem since i've had the car.... I have tryed to take apart the console so that i can remove the dials but didn't have much luck.

Can anyone tell me the best way to remove the dials panel?

    Thanks

    Gareth

    Hi again Gareth,

Use a pair of bull nosed pliers to pull the three dials off, use some cloth to protect the plastic. They may be well stuck on hard.

There are some countersunk screws hidden behind the dials. Unscrew and this will give you access to the assembly.

The bits should be the same as Audi 80/90 controls.

Buy a Haynes manual £15 and very useful for bits and bobs.

It won't tell you a lot about the engines and transmission of the S2 but still handy all the same.

Although it was a while ago that i had a look into the problem i'm pretty sure i pulled the dials off..... but i don't remember seeing countersunk screws there. I'll have another look.

      Thanks

SHEEPISH, You will need to replace the fan switch, I remember my old coupe and passat suffered with this problem, and the switch shorts out internally and melts the plastic so altering speed becomes diffcult or non existant! Old switch will really smell when you remove it and have a sniff!!

Not that that is what I go round doing by the way!! So keep your remarks to yourselves!!
