strange trim spotted in LHD car

OK chaps, I have some simple questions to ask, based on one of Tom's famous pictures (BTW, where is Tom and when are we getting more of these very detailed technical pictures?)

Now, the questions are simple and relate to a part of the car arrowed in the picture below, however I suspect that few of you will be able to concentrate on the arrow for long enough to remember the questions, so here they are first......

    1. Wassat?
    2. Wassit for?
    3. Wassit doin' der?
    4. Why ain't I got one?

Now, remember that there are other things in the picture which could equally well have those questions applied to them, but for now, let's just deal with the arrowed trim

remember, it is the RED ARROW that I am asking about

Sorry, did you say there was a car in the picture?

      Knee Pad

On US spec vehicles this is part of the occupant protection system that comes on cars equipped with an air bag. This is to protect the knees of the driver in the event of a crash. I presume this would only occur if the driver was not wearing their seat belt. This heavy foamed part has a sheet aluminum backing and is bracketed to the steering column and pillar post.
Pre 1990 US vehicles had a parcel shelf in this spot. I have replaced this part on my airbag equipped coupes with the older style shelves. Saved about 10 lbs.

I'm confused, are we referring to a picture of the interior of an S2? I see a picture, but no S2, and certainly no 'red arrow'.

There does appear to be a mysterious shape on the lady's top, kind of like a club (as in suites of cards), and the pointiness of her shoe does seem excessive, but the legs certainly look in very good shape, and the hair is of the perfect 'hang in your face' length.

Otherwise I cannot see issue with the photo, but I am very grateful to you for bringing it to our attention...

I think the shoes are of a normal competition length, but the hair is surely a little longer than "hang in your face" length, more like "tickle the back of your throat" length.

But i still cant see any arrow.

I'm not sure. I'm confused and a little hot under the collar, but I don't know why.

The brace of pints at a local hostelry this lunchtime haven't helped...

Good answer, only Tom's car is an S2 and therefore not a US spec car. You'll also notice that there is no side knee pad on the centre tunnel, again something only found on US cars.

I'll take a look when I get home - if the girlfriend is about, it may filter out the distracting elements of the picture. (I still can't see a car anywhere in that picture.)

Well you'd think so wouldn't you, but the damn Yanks only wanted the side knee pad on the drivers side, so it is impossible to get a pair of them and ther are very much handed

I 'spose that means that passengers are obviously either considered as either unbrakeable, or as 2nd-class citizens in US law then

P.S. You can see why we gave the USA back can't you, particularly after dumping all that perfectly drinkable tea......sheesh Happy 4th July BTW

Checking out the lovely lady in Tom's thread, but then is oddly attracted to a piece of trim he's never seen before. I bet it put him right off his stroke.
