    Removable steering wheel

    Hi everyone

I have been thinking of this security upgrade for a while as its pretty hard for the chancing thief to get his grubby hands on a motor if there is no wheel!
Have any of you guys (or gals) had any experience with this type of product?

Initial research shows there seems to be 2 main choices on the bay, the 1st being twice the price as the 2nd.

item number 220207427964 (raid snap off)
    item number 120226835844

Gut says the Raid one will be better but surely both must meet some kind of safety standard for usage? They are probably not suitable for airbag wheels, so it rules a lot of later cars out i suppose..
Any comments on this kind of upgrade or these products are invited...

    -Sadiq

It is the second type that you posted and they are similar in design to quick release tap holders.
Mine has been modified to replace the cage which sits behind the wheel, otherwise you would need fingers like Edward Scissor hands to reach the stalks.
There is no play in it, at all.

BRY that looks pretty good, how much extra (distance wise) does the wheel sit out compared to before and does it noticably shorten your reach to it?
Also, does it release the same way - press and turn?

Albert, where is this kind of kit available and what kind of price are we talking?

Mine puts the wheel in the same place as standard.
To operate you have to push the silver button, then slide the outer silver cylinder away from the steering wheel, release the locking mechanism, then remove the wheel.

That is a serious bit of kit! I'm however on a budget, as always, and could never justify getting that when there is a £35 option doing the same thing.

If money was no object.. aaahh.. the joys i would have ordering that. Idealy it would arrive just in time before i was setting out for my visit to the ring - via dahlback of course. A few wee mods and back on the road..
