VDO boost gauge and single holder fitting.

Has anyone done this found that the back of the gauge fouls the flap for the opening and closing the vents? If so, how do you get round it?

    Cheers,

You can push against the flap and remove it and either leave it out or cut it.

Cut the mouting studs down, should be better.
Mine only opens just over half way which is plenty for me....

I just removed mine and I did the same with david (s2driveruk's) when I did his light for his gauge. Found its not too bad with it completely gone. just pops out and slides out.

I didn't even think of that

I'll try that and see if the vacuum pipe and wiring clear it, before I remove it.

While talking about this, what wires did you guys tap into to light it up? I'm useless with electrics.

You could use one of the wires from either the switches below the vent or just the one in the wiring for the stereo which is what I used on david's.

I think I might tap into one of the switch wires, they light up when the lights are switched on, thanks for that

I used the glove box light circuit, simple to get to, mind you haven't tried a bulb in it... not been out in the dark yet.

I have just fitted dm80 boost gauge and wired up to glove box light ..much easier to go this way than muck about with switches at the back

The gauge is quite deep and I will cut the mounting studs down when I am feeling brave. If you want to have full air flap operation, you will need to use a much shorter bulb holder and also not use the long brass tube, just the olive and good tubing.

Finally, you cannot use the CliveH holder as the mounting hole is at the top. For air flap operation the gauge must be mounted in the middle or better yet towards the bottom (hence my comments on the new holder GB).

As suggested above, until you source a more appropriate holder just remove the air flap by bending in the middle (it bends quite easily) and then pushing the left side in to release the lug from the recess. The rotate the flap to release the operating lever on the right and withdraw the flap. I have run through summer and winter without an air flap and not even noticed.

As for wiring, I used the power feed to the heater controls illumination as that is easier to access than the 3 gauges below and it is then switched on when the lights are on.

                      Cheers n

Took the flap out this afternoon, wired it all up to the glove box light (who needs to see in there anyway?) and it all works!

                        Well proud of myself

                        Cheers for your help everyone!
