    removing speedo needle

I'm trying to replace/fix the oddometer on my tdi as its stopped working, the speedo is still working so i'm assuming somethings jammed or broken in there. the problem i have is that i cant get the speedo needle off, looking at this site http://cuatrokoop.audi-quattro.org/gauge_repair.htmit says it pulls off, but when i tried it just shattered into two peices i have a spare but i really dont want to break that too.....anyone have any BTDTs?

    Two Spoons Dave Spoon mate!

Use a couple of tablespoons to lever it off as carefully as possible keeping the pressure as even as you can. Worked for me (not on one of these clusters though).

tbh i have a couple of spare 160 dials so would rather use them but i'll keep yours in mind for a back-up if my 160 ones dont work
unless it has obc in which case i'll take it now lol

No mate it doesn't have OBC. Gut feeling is that the 160 won't work but give it a go!

well i managet to get the one of my 20v clocks very easily... so guess the tdi one was corroded or something...oh well, i'm thinking that even if the speedo moves round too far for the 160 speedo, as in it ready 70 at 80 i could just swap the back plates round so it still reads right.....will find out tomo tho, dont have a chance to fit them back today

let me know how you get on Anton, my odometer has stopped working but the speedo is going strong like yours.
I've been too scared to start trying to pull the needle off though
If the face can be swapped easily i can always put the white face onto a spare 20v speedo I've got

If you want info about it check out bo's plasma dials thread as he put information there about doing it.

btw if you funk up its £120+ for a new speedo face as I got a spare a while ago which I gave to david.

My S2's speedo broke too when I tried to change plasma gaugefaces. The pin of the needle was stuck and when I tried with spoons it just broke in to two pieces. This was few years back tho. I now have another speedo in, but haven't had balls to try opening it, yet... The first gauge seemed like it had some kind of glue in it.
