    Heater Matrix :-(

Got fed up with no warm air inside the S2 so I decided to flush the matrix out.
Great stuck the hose pipe in and immediately lots of gunky brown residue began to flow out the other pipe.

    Great I thought

till I got back inside once it was up to temperature it's like sitting in my very own German Sauna.....

Does the Aircon cars have a different heater matrix to the non air con cars???

It looks like I have the epic task of removing that bast*** thing this weekend.

Its not that hard to remove the dash and heater matrix, just remember all the nuts under the bonnet.

I recently swapped the dash in the avant as someone had stuck a badge on the dash with locktite and I wanted a mint dash I had spare fitting. There is pictures/info in a thread I did before here:

Its not that bad, to remove the dash was taking me around 20 mins, refit was around an hour to make sure. I've since found a couple more tips which I will update shortly.

The little bleed valve on the pipe inlet to the heater matrix.
If it's seized then slacken the jubilee off a little till the air escapes.

Thanks, i thought that was the way but then when you wrote what you dd above i want so sure.

I just removed the nipple, then lifted the water reservoir about 5cm until coolant was flowing from the whole, then replaced the nipple, and lowered the reservoir back down, refilled coolant to max line and job done..

          Thanks.

Well I had some time spare today so I removed the matrix and sure enough it was ****'ed
While I was there I decided to remove the seats and get the carpet out. I have removed all the soggy soundproofing and sponge from all of the floor pan. I also decided to cut the Pro-Con ten out the inside in preperation of removing the big bits of pig iron from under the car.

At least it's all toasty inside now.

Sounds good, its not as hard as it seems just takes time to sort it all out and get it back together again, s2's slightly harder due to more wiring/ecu.

Just for the record, the early A4s had the same heater matrix as well
